Terms of Service
These terms explain the responsibilities and standards that apply when you create an account and participate in the MMUST Innovation Academy community.
Effective date: 22 September 2026
1. Acceptance of these terms
By registering for an account, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to follow these Terms of Service and the policies that govern Academy activities.
If you do not agree, do not create an account or use the Academy portal.
2. Accurate account information
You must provide accurate, complete, and current information when registering. You must not impersonate another person or create an account using information that is false or misleading.
You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for activity carried out through your account. Notify the Academy if you believe your account has been accessed without permission.
3. Participation and conduct
Members are expected to contribute to a respectful, inclusive, ethical, and professional innovation community.
- Treat other members, staff, mentors, and partners with respect.
- Use Academy resources and programmes for legitimate learning, research, and innovation purposes.
- Do not harass, threaten, discriminate against, or exploit another person.
- Do not introduce malicious software, disrupt Academy systems, or bypass access controls.
- Follow reasonable instructions issued by Academy staff during programmes and events.
4. Confidentiality and responsible sharing
Academy members may encounter confidential information, early-stage ideas, research, prototypes, business plans, and other sensitive work. You agree to handle that information responsibly and to protect the trust placed in you by the Academy and its members.
- Never share an idea you are developing at MIA without written authorization from the appropriate Academy or University authority.
- Keep Academy affairs, discussions, documents, and other confidential information private unless you have permission to disclose them.
- Do not distribute Academy materials, presentations, recordings, research, or other resources without permission.
- Do not use another member’s idea, work, or confidential information as your own.
These responsibilities apply whether information is shared verbally, electronically, in writing, through the portal, or during an Academy programme or event.
5. Intellectual property
You retain responsibility for the work and content you create or submit. By sharing material through the portal or an Academy programme, you confirm that you have the right to share it.
Innovations, research outputs, and intellectual property developed through Academy activities may be subject to applicable MMUST policies, agreements, funding conditions, and Kenyan law. You acknowledge that MMUST’s Intellectual Property Policy applies to relevant work and activities.
Seek guidance before publishing, licensing, commercialising, publicly presenting, or otherwise disclosing work where ownership, confidentiality, permission, or attribution is unclear.
6. Portal content and availability
The Academy may update, suspend, restrict, or remove portal content and features as programmes, security requirements, or institutional policies change.
We work to keep information useful and available, but we do not guarantee that the portal will always be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at every time.
7. Suspension or termination
The Academy may suspend or close an account where it reasonably believes that these terms, institutional policies, or applicable law have been breached, or where action is needed to protect members, systems, or Academy interests.
A breach of confidentiality, unauthorized sharing, misuse of Academy materials, infringement of intellectual-property rights, or other serious misconduct may lead to termination of participation and further action, including legal action where appropriate and permitted by law.
By participating in the Academy, you commit to upholding innovation ethics, professional standards, confidentiality, responsible collaboration, and respect for the rights of others.
Ending an account does not remove responsibilities that arose before the account was closed.
8. Privacy and communications
Information submitted during registration and use of the portal may be processed to provide Academy services, manage membership, communicate programme updates, protect the portal, and meet institutional or legal obligations.
Keep your contact details current so the Academy can send verification, programme, and account communications.
9. Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated when Academy services, institutional requirements, or applicable law changes. The effective date above will be updated when material changes are published.
Continuing to use the portal after updated terms take effect means you accept the revised terms to the extent permitted by law.
10. Contact
Questions about these terms or Academy membership should be directed to the MMUST Innovation Academy through the official Academy contact channels.
